Rio Vista Master Plan Approved

On December 28, the Tucson Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to approve the revised master plan for Rio Vista Natural Resource Park. As you probably know, the revised plan was different from the original draft in one major respect: the recommendation to install a dog enclosure in the park had been removed. For those of you who didn’t get a chance to review the revised plan, you can download it here (16 MB PDF).

Friends of Rio Vista and the RillitoBend Neighborhood Association support the commission’s decision. We feel that Tucson Parks and Recreation has addressed most of the stakeholders’ concerns and that the master plan will be a guide to successful protection of the Rio Vista ecosystem. We’re especially grateful to Commissioners Robin McArdle, Manon Getsi, and Steve Poe for their guidance.

The final step in the approval process will be the presentation of the master plan for adoption by Mayor and Council, probably within the next few months. If you support the adoption of the master plan, please e-mail your city councilmember and ward office staff (ward[no.]@tucsonaz.gov), and please copy Councilmember Kevin Dahl and the Ward 3 Office staff (ward3@tucsonaz.gov).

All of you who’ve participated in the master-planning process can be proud of your contribution to this landmark. Thank you so much, and good wishes to you all for the new year!
