A History of Land Cover Change at Rio Vista Park

Last night, about 25 people joined Julia Fonseca of Madrean Resources for a highly informative and interesting Zoom presentation on the history of landscape changes at Rio Vista Natural Resource Park. She walked us through a series of aerial photos spanning a period of more than 80 years — from the 1930s to present time — to see how the park’s land cover has changed due to aridification and urbanization. The images show changes in vegetative cover, surface water and drainage features, and cultural features (trails, buildings, and roads) in and near the park. Julia also talked about the impacts of the 1983 flood.

Thanks to everyone who attended — and special thanks to Julia for a great talk! You can watch the video recording below or download the PowerPoint here.
