Friends of Rio Vista and allied stakeholders have submitted concerns about the safety and sustainability of some of these changes. Our most immediate requests for revision are these:

Safe Trails

  • Yes to a trail network that will keep the park natural in the long term
  • Yes to addition of spatial options that will let visitors pass each other safely (for example, short alternate trail segments and pull-offs or lay-bys)
  • No to narrow, raised trail segments that could be dangerous for horses and riders, as well as other visitors

You can find trail maps here. Please note the proposed raised trail segments and the trails proposed for closure (yellow highlight).

Sustainable Revegetation

  • Yes to a gradual process for reestablishing native vegetation, supported by a functional irrigation system
  • No to a “blitz” planting of 365 container plants without a clear plan for watering and other maintenance

If you agree with these concerns, please join us in respectfully requesting that they be addressed. As always, we’re grateful for your dedication to Rio Vista’s natural character. We’re looking forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon at the park.

P.S. Be sure to bring water and a hat!
